Yoga nidra meaning “sleep with trace of awareness”, it is an ancient technique for complete relaxation of physical, mental and emotional layers of oneself. It is state of consciousness in which you are neither asleep, now awake or dreaming, neither you are concentrating nor being hypnotized rather in a state of deep and complete relaxation!
The practice of yoga nidra has shown to produce alpha—relaxing waves in both hemispheres of the brain and alters the state of one’s consciousness, among many benefits, yoga nidra has positive effects on hypertension, coronary diseases, allergies, asthma and many autoimmune disorders. It also manages stress and trauma related disorders such as PTSD, depression, anxiety and insomnia by training the mind to remain calm, quiet by rooting out repressed thoughts and desires. Regular practice of yoga nidra also fosters creativity, promotes learning and improves memory.
This yoga nidra is a simplified version of ancient Tantric Kriya(s)—techniques designed by Swami Satyananda of Bihar school (India). It is practiced in a simple posture Savasana (corpse pose) and follows the verbal instructions of an instructor which include Sankalpa—Resolve, body scan, breath awareness and visualizations.
